Wow, was that just the most amazing Pennsic EVER or what?
Thank you to everyone to came out to the shows and played with us around the campfires... oh, and for putting up with our shenanigans after we were delirious from dancing (and tequila) late in the evening/ morn. And thank you for not suing us over any random turfing or wrasslin’ you were subjected to with or without your consent.
I loved seeing so many of our Pittsburgh friends out around the campfires and performing to live music on the Performing arts stage. Thanks to you, our community here in the 'burgh is growing and gaining notoriety. It’s very exciting, and what is even more exciting is that we have lots of great Pennsic friends coming here to teach and perform in the next few months. Here are some shows that I know off the top of my head, please post if you know any others:
Ishtar will be at YIV on August 31, and will play again in October AND November.
Wine and Alchemy will be playing at YIV on Thurs Sept 25th (I’m 85% certain that is the date). They are amazingly talented and play Eastern European and Greek gypsy music. I was lucky to jam with them till morning at the end of Pennsic. Thanks guys, what a treat!
If you had the luck to see Onca and August from the Mezmer Society at Pennsic, then you know what a force of nature these two artists are. August’s diverse repertoire of songs is a never-ending bag of tricks. And Onca’s luscious baritone voice and sassy dance will have you mesmerized. They will be coming to Pittsburgh to teach and perform Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 29 &30). YES! Workshops will include dance, performance approaches, singing and accordion workshops, and of course we will have a show and jam sessions galore. We will post more info, soon, but save the date now.
Raquy and the Caveman will be coming to YIV in November.
I can't believe how great the music was this year at Pennsic! The music was stellar and the dancing was inspired and fun. I feel like I came away a different dancer, picking up bits and pieces from our friends from different tribes. Thanks so much for a lovely and inspired experience.

Re: Post Pennsic Post
Wed, August 13, 2008 - 8:26 AMI don't know what all the hubbub is about, I think pennsic sucks... no, it's just awful.... drinking all hours of the night, dancing madly by fires to terrible music.... drunkenly thrashing yourself in mammocks(mammoth hammocks) tequila wrestling, yup.... I hate it terribly...
I not looking forward to next pennsic at all..... -

I hated seeing you this year. It was the absolute worst.
(......Love you. I wish there was a mammock for the whole year.)

Re: Post Pennsic Post
Wed, August 13, 2008 - 9:06 AMIt was definitely my best Pennsic. I cannot say thank you enough to Zafira, Mezmer, and Blue Lotus for being a part of that. It was joyous to dance and spend time with you all. And I have to say, that was the best Flag Return EVAH! I'm so glad I was still there to see it on Friday.
I'm so saving the date for Thanksgiving.
Thank you Thank you for being a part of that experience!

Re: Post Pennsic Post
Fri, August 15, 2008 - 8:39 AMWell, as the story goes...
One night Jenn gave me some of her wine...well I got wasted over some wine. I don't quite recall if I drank anything else but I was completely gone. All I could say was..it was only one mug...
I learned later that week that I blamed the whole thing on Jenn, it was all her fault.
Thanks Jenn! -

Tue, August 19, 2008 - 10:32 AMIF I EVER have that much fun in five days again, I hope I die right then and there.
Seriously, tequila-swilling benevolent aliens will have to land in the Swamp with DeVotchka and a contortionist on board to entertain me, just to even come close. -

Re: Post Pennsic Post
Wed, August 20, 2008 - 9:39 AMMy favorite Pennsic moment was when Olivia tried to tackle my friend Jenn! She didn't take her down, so she backed up and tried again! Nope, Jenn couldn't be taken down, so she caught little Liv in her arms and gave her a huge hug. I wished I would have caught it on video...it was GREAT!
